BG3 Tarot Deck
This is a fan project meant to celebrate tarot and showcase creatives in the BG3 community. Many of the participants in the project read tarot themselves and we all love BG3, so it was a nice way to marry the two loves together. We hope you enjoy this passion project as much as we do.
About This Project
What began as a passing shower thought (“Wouldn’t it be cool if there was a Baldur’s Gate 3 themed Tarot Deck that showed off a variety of incredibly talented creators in the BG3 Community?”) became a journey to create a fully usable physical deck and book.Starting in June 2024, the project heads recruited an enthusiastic mod team and over 100 amazing creators to showcasing the beautiful work included in this collaborative effort. It was a profound love for the BG3 community and a desire to hold a physical testament of that love and passion in our hands which made us pursue this project, and we are incredibly grateful to have seen it thrive.Our goal was to create, produce, and ship this product to our project backers, donating any and all profits to charity. Seeing the amount of war, famine, violence, and strife in the world today, we wanted to see this money put to use in a way that benefited people who needed it most, finally deciding on Médecins sans frontières (MSF), also known as Doctors Without Borders. With their mission to provide medical access and aid in places that do not have it due to conflict, epidemic, disaster, or exclusion, we could think of no better charity to give to in an age of acute crisis.The project art and writing was created from Summer 2024 through December 2024, aiming to create and try to merge a love of art, BG3, community, and charity together. During the fundraising stage, it was fully backed on Kickstarter within 35 minutes, had become a Kickstarter Project We Loved, and reached all its stretch goals within two days. Before it was forced to cancel, the project had raised over $70,000 USD with over 700 backers -- after production costs, we would have had enough money to fund over 33 thousand meals for children in need through our chosen charity.When the project had to be cancelled, the mod team pivoted to a free PDF release of the book to all contributors and backers; it is the culmination of everything we accomplished. Though there won’t be a physical deck, we created art and stories for all 78 cards of a tarot deck as well as incredible accompanying merch designs. We hope it showcases well what we had hoped to create, and how close we came to accomplishing it.Although our project ends here, our objective of encouraging positive action does not. If you are able to, we strongly urge you to uphold the second mission of our project and donate to MSF (Doctors Without Borders).
